Jim shares how everything started:
“In September 2005 I was sitting at the dinner table late one night when God spoke to me. It was not an audible voice, but it resonated deeply in my heart. Very clearly, the Father asked me to make a sacrifice for Him. Long story short, many, many subsequent prayer conversations made it beyond any doubt that He was asking me to step out in faith to start a new church. It was to be a church for people who've given up on God and given up on church.”
Much prayer and thought went into nailing down the specifics of what exactly that would look like. This new church was going to be different – on purpose.
After that long process, in July 2008, God made it clear that it was time to launch the new church. On the last Sunday of that month, Jim announced his resignation to Poca Baptist Church, where he had pastored for twelve wonderful and fruitful years. As of the Sunday that he announced his resignation, the new church basically had no money and no people. This new church was a step of faith.
NewPoint Church had its first official meeting on the first Sunday in September 2008 at a home in Teays Valley. As of that meeting, twenty-one people made up the church. (Pretty good for a first meeting!) In early November 2008, this core group began meeting on Sunday mornings at Hurricane High School. On Sunday, December 21st, NewPoint had Launch Sunday, officially beginning weekly public worship.
You're welcome to join us this Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Hurricane High School.
Because this whole process has been initiated and guided by God's hand, we believe that He has incredible things in store for NewPoint.
